System Tuning Software

v0.1.0-alpha.1Sep 7, 2026

wootc is an open-source Windows utility that installs bootc-based Linux directly into a single virtual disk image beside existing Windows files. It configures native dual-booting under UEFI Secure Boot without repartitioning drives, altering existing personal data, or permanently committing the host system to disk changes.

Technical Overview of wootc

Distributed as a standalone executable that requires no traditional setup wizard, wootc stages signed boot components directly on the EFI system partition and writes the chosen container image into a dedicated disk file. The entire process runs native Linux at raw hardware speeds using a loop-mounted virtual disk rather than hypervisor overhead.

Core Features of wootc

  • Zero repartitioning required because the installation target lives inside a single root.disk file, keeping Windows partitions intact.
  • Native migration transfers local files, browser profiles, Wi-Fi networks, and desktop settings automatically without transmitting credentials or account passwords.
  • Secure Boot compatibility relies on signed shims, a custom initramfs deployer, and TPM2/LUKS encryption paths rather than disabling system security.
  • Image catalog flexibility supports containerized OS bases like Fedora, Arch, Debian, and Enterprise Linux desktops alongside custom OCI containers.
  • Fully reversible footprint allows complete removal from the standard Windows Apps menu by deleting the disk folder and bootloader entry.

System Compatibility & Updates

Built for Windows 11 on modern UEFI hardware with TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled. The latest release introduces pre-bundled OS distributions such as Bazzite and Bluefin, fully automating image verification against local SHA256 checksums before initiating deployment.

Why Choose wootc?

wootc eliminates the disk corruption risks of traditional dual-booting by isolating the Linux environment within a modular file container. Its fully open-source pipeline guarantees zero telemetry, transparent binary verification, and effortless uninstallation directly from Windows.
